Buzzsaw.com: Using the Company Name

Buzzsaw.com follows the "Amazon.com" model with regard to the use of our company name: while our logo remains lower case, the name must always be capitalized in text. Also, the name must always include the ".com" or we could compromise our trademark status. See note on the use of Trademarks.

Note: The b is lower case when used in a link or an email address:

Coming Soon: Handling new products and services

To avoid getting a reputation as "the site that cried wolf," consider the following when referring to a new Buzzsaw.com product or service:

Emphasize benefits rather than features. Because specific features and services are subject to refinement and even elimination, we should generally err on the side of vagueness when discussing them on the site. Emphasize the benefits of the approaching life-altering, "how did we live with out this?" service rather than specific features.

Short term: If a release is less than three months away, and all members of the development team have committed to a schedule (without crossing their fingers under the table), we will refer to a month of release. If not, default to the quarter of release (e.g., 2nd quarter 2000).

Mid-term: If a release is three to nine months away, refer to the quarter of release rather than the to season (don't use "Coming Spring 2000!"). It never hurts to give yourself a quarter's cushion.

Distant Galaxies: If a release is more than nine months away, it's probably best to keep our mouths shut. If you just can't contain yourself, refer to the feature in only the vaguest of terms and with absolutely no suggestion of time period.

Inline Links: Linking within our site

Links should be deployed strategically, as a navigational aid to members. Due to its formatting (bold or underlined or both) link text can weight down a page, so keep it minimal. Don't use “click here to…” as link text. There is always a better option.
